Ma and Kami – The Soul of Emptiness

In my watercolors, I focus intensely on the interplay between Ma and Kami. In Japanese aesthetics, Ma (間) is much more than just a gap. It is the creative space in between, the conscious pause that gives things their meaning. In this silence, the Kami (神) reveal themselves. They are the whispering soul of nature, the power of ancient stone and the spirit that watches over the forests around the temples.
